Life is a luminous halo | AGA LAB online exhibition #5

June 21 is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day people in Northern Europe celebrate the light. Some go to Stonehenge to watch the sun rise exactly above Heel Stone, that glows as exact as a flame on a candle. Others jump over bonfires or eat everything new like: the first strawberries, new herring and new potatoes. Today we, AGA LAB & KNUST@AGA LAB, celebrate the light with a new online exhibition.

‘I see the sun, and if I don’t see the sun, I know it’s there. And there’s a whole life in that, in knowing that the sun is there.’

Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov (1879)

Light in our studio

In our ‘Gym’, light is a very important component to be able to make work at all. Such as the gigantic light box that makes the prints visible on the silkscreen frame, the strong lamp that converts a negative on light-sensitive material into an image to be printed and of course the sunlight that brings life to the Painting Plants garden. We all always work with light and some artists also make work about light.

Light, light, light

In this selection of works you will find that tingling first light, the only light, the light that makes colours visible, spotlights and searchlights, , halos and lightning (thunder).

The light is ultimate and linked to a special moment. That moment that you really live, you will remember and that makes you stop to catch a glimpse of the brilliance of life. It shines on your face, wakes you up, makes the world visible, livable and calls out to you: live, live, live!

I like to wake up.’

About the AGA LAB & KNUSTPRESS at AGA LAB online exhibitions

This is the fifth series of our online exhibitions. An initiative of artist/curator Barbara Collé.

Every month we compile a new series in which the different printing techniques that AGA LAB and KNUST @ AGA LAB have to offer, such as Riso printing, screen printing, toyobo, digital printing and etching. The works are made by artists and designers who regularly work in our studio and / or participated in our AIR program.
