Designed for photographers looking to expand their practice beyond conventional printing methods, this masterclass explores cyanotype as a contemporary photographic process. Working from your own digital or analogue photographs, you’ll learn how to produce finely detailed, exhibition-quality cyanotype prints while developing a practical workflow that can be integrated into your own practice.
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic printing processes. Using a light-sensitive coating, UV light produces the process’s characteristic Prussian blue image with exceptional sharpness, rich tonal variation and a distinctive material presence that cannot be replicated through inkjet printing.
With an emphasis on photographic quality and technical precision, the workshop covers every stage of the process: preparing images for cyanotype, producing high-quality digital or analogue negatives, coating paper evenly, controlling UV exposure, developing prints, and refining contrast, density and tonal range. Alongside the technical foundations, participants will explore how small adjustments throughout the workflow influence the final print.

The workshop fee covers the printing materials for the session, and you will get one extra day for free in the AGALab workshop to come back and experiment further!
