Organization
The AGA LAB Foundation, founded in 1958, is a multidisciplinary do-it-yourself workshop and graphic studio in the field of technology, materials and images. In addition to the autonomous arts, AGA LAB also caters for companies in the graphic industry, textile design and for digital media and social design. An inspiring workshop for around 300 (international) artists, designers and photographers every year.
AGA LAB receives multi-year funding from the Kunstenplan of the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and earns an income of 52%. We are a well-equipped public studio, measuring approximately 650 m2, that organizes masterclasses, workshops, lectures and presentations for various target groups. With our Artist in Residence program, we actively stimulate the interaction between (international) artists. We offer the opportunity to work with other artists, designers and photographers, participate in social events, presentations, network, etc.
Purpose of the position
The Technical supervisor: etching, lithograph and relief printing is responsible for receiving and guiding customers of the workshop and ensures professional and careful use of the equipment. He/She/They is an experienced expert with regard to printing techniques, has a service-oriented attitude, knows how to tackle and thinks and works with customers. The Technical Supervisor is also a member of the Management Team of AGA LAB.
Profile
To be able to perform this function, the following requirements must be met:
a. HBO working and thinking level.
b. Extensive experience with and enthusiasm for the ‘classical’ techniques, specifically etching.
c. Experience with etching techniques including relief printing, lithography and toyobo.
d. A hands-on mentality; does what is necessary to achieve good management and implementation.
e. Good organizational and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
f. Experience with project-based work and a flexible and collegial attitude.
g. Ability to devise and set up projects.
h. The ability to apply social skills such as tact, listening and helpfulness in dealing with colleagues, partners, volunteers and customers.
i. Able to work independently, whereby the working method and setting priorities also take place according to one’s own insight.
j. Being open to and curious about new developments, and willing to share knowledge.
k. Stress resistance, being able to assist and keep in control with small and large work pressure.
Specifically
The tasks of the Technical Supervisor include:
a. Guiding and (technical) advising users.
b. Giving workshops, developing masterclasses.
c. Executing assignments (Printing on Demand).
d. Managing and delegating to the volunteer(s) on that day.
e. Supervision of the use of the studio, facilities and materials.
f. Purchase material, contact the suppliers.
g. Maintenance of the wet cell, concerning pressure facilities and other equipment.
h. Initiating, executing and supporting activities, workshops and projects of AGA LAB.
i. Participates in the Staff meetings on a regular basis, currently monthly.
j. Have a good grasp of Dutch.
Reward
This is a fixed-term employment contract, 8 hours per week. This position will be honoured with € 395,– net per month for 32 hours. With the possibility of extra income by giving workshops, for example during the weekend. The fee also includes free use of the workshop. The position is subject to a probationary period of 3 months and an appointment for 1 year, with the
prospect of a permanent appointment.
