In our digitizing world, artists are increasingly turning to traditional printing techniques such as etching. Rembrandt is still a great source of inspiration. But new techniques continue to emerge: Toyobo is a contemporary technique with surprising new possibilities. And then there’s the search for environmentally friendly ways of print making.
Discover what makes Rembrandt’s etchings so special and how the Rembrandt effect can be achieved with new techniques during exclusive tours and workshops by print studio AGA LAB and Museum Rembrandthuis. We offer two programs: one aimed at beginners and one tailored to professionals.
Please note: The language of both programs is English.
Program 1: The copy as art (for beginners)
Guided tour and workshop
The first part of this program is a tour of Rembrandt’s house and the temporary exhibition Rembrandt and the World. Together with a museum specialist you will discover how Rembrandt lived and worked and learn about his special etching technique. In the exhibition, you will explore 50 etchings by Rembrandt, each portraying something from the wider world, something non-Dutch. And that from an artist who never left the country!
The second part of this program takes place in at AGA LAB. Here you will get to do hands-on work during a Toyobo workshop. With this technique you will make four copies of four Rembrandt etchings from the exhibition. You will then learn how to print the etching plates and experiment with different ways of printing. Just like Rembrandt did.
Workshop dates: Saturday September 28 or Saturday October 5
Time: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Max. number of participants: 15
Location: AGA LAB, De Roos van Dekamaweg 7, Amsterdam
