Masterclass during Whitsun weekend (Saturday 19th and Sunday 2oth of May) on the kaleidoscopic possibilities of color and design in silkscreen with the award-winning designer and silkscreen expert Michiel Schuurman.
Screen printing is for many people one of the easiest or most accessible printing techniques: until you get to take a good look at Michiel Schuurman’s screen prints!
The sparkling colors splash from the paper, in a form that is hallucinogenic through the detailed diagrams that blend into color and shape.
This is technique that does not just occur under your hands – this has been thought about, it is pre-incubated and is driven by the possibilities in digital pre-production and the technique that silkscreens also contain. These are the ‘secrets’ of Michiel Schuurman. And that’s what it’s about in this masterclass.
Day 1 Stencil printing
In this section you learn how to deal with transparent color surfaces, thinking in layers and working with contrasts in form and color. You will get started with the stencil printing technique with which you can experiment at high speed.
Day 2 Screen printing
The focus is on printing and reflecting in four-color printing. We start with the CMYK colors and learn how to prepare the films in the computer. We will print with screens combined with solids and line drawings. You will also learn how to solve the problems during printing.
